Calvin Cox stole a plane from Frederick Airport
January 2nd, 2010 - 10:29 pm ICT by Aishwarya BhattFrederick, Jan 2 (THAINDIAN NEWS) A homeless man Calvin Cox stole a plane from the Frederick Airport. He thought that he would make a quick getaway out of town, but the law caught up with him and he was arrested and currently he is lodged in jail. Apparently he wasn’t very well versed with how to operate a plane, so he crashed it on the runway itself.
“The homeless man couldn’t get the single engine aircraft off the ground and crashed the aircraft on a Frederick Municipal Airport runway,” reports ABC News. A single-engine Piper PA-18-150 was found on a runway leaned forward on its nose, reports the Fredrick News-Post. Because of the crash, the aircraft was also damaged. Police claim that the suspect, 51-year old Calvin Craig Cox, ran away from the aircraft after the crash and he was later located near a barn.
Lt. Clark Pennington says a Frederick County Sheriff’s Office canine team found Cox in the woods and though he was “familiar with airplanes but not proficient in their operation.” According to reports, the stolen plane belonged to the Mid-Atlantic Soaring Association. It sustained propeller damage as well as fuselage damage. Calvin Cox is now currently lodged in a jail.
