Los Angeles, Aug 25 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The US Geological Survey has reported that a 3.6 magnitude quake struck in California on Tuesday night. The tremor comes just a day after a 5.8 quake struck Virginia and Washington.

The quake was reportedly felt strongly in the East Bay and Peninsula regions. Another tremor followed up shortly after that near Yorba Linda in Orange County. USGS reports that hundreds of people felt the quake that struck in East Bay.

Scientists say the quake was centered on the Hayward Fault about six miles south of Oakland. There was a smaller 2.3 magnitude aftershock after the quake struck.

A reporter for KCBS announced on his Twitter account that, “Quick hard shake of the house here on Berkeley-Oakland border… Nice adrenaline boost!”

A Twitter user summed up the fears of most Americans when he wrote, “I certainly pray this entire earthquake-thing hitting Massachusetts, Colorado, and every other place does not become The actual Day After Tomorrow.”

The USGS reports that in the past week, there have been 728 earthquakes in different places in the United States.

None of the recorded quakes in the United States compare to the 9.0 quake that triggered a deadly tsunami in Japan killing 25,000 people in the process.
