Dec.31, (THAINDIAN NEWS) A severe Earthquake having a magnitude of 5.8 hit Northern Baja California region on Wednesday morning. It was preceded by a couple of less strong quakes. The quake was quite strong and its tremors were felt in areas like San Diego, Tijuana, Los Angeles and Phoenix. Buildings swayed in San Diego, as per the reports. However, no casualty or damages were reported after the quake hit the region. It took place at around 10:48 a.m. regional time. The seismologists traced the epicenter of the quake to be around 20 to 22 miles from Mexicali, a border city in Mexico.
As usual with quakes of such magnitude, a small quake followed it with a magnitude of 4.9. Since the region is a seismically active one, earthquakes are quite commonplace. As one can expect, the quake created panic among the residents and people scurried for cover after feeling the buildings shaking. Soon after the quake, the bloggers and twitter users went online to write their experiences. Everyone wanted to find out if their friends and relatives were affected by the quake or not. People who were out in the streets could hear the sound of creaking from the adjacent apartments and buildings.
However, the seismology department has not issued any tsunami warning as an after effect of the quake. According to the experts, an Earthquake with such magnitude do not cause a tsunami in general. However, in some cases intense shaking can trigger smaller tsunamis. The scientists are keeping a close watch on the region to see if more Earthquakes follow suit.

Thx 4 the story; but a request please: “As one can expect, the quake …” is not responsible journalism. Your objective is to report news. “As one can expect” brings in personal opinion which should be reserved for editorials. All reporters need to be cautioned to avoid this trend.
