Sacramento, Mar 7 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Keeping ferrets as pets have been banned in most states in the United States. That though has done very little to stop some people from doing so.

Some owners are now demanding that they should be allowed to do what they love legally. Ferret owners in California have started a campaign to ensure that they get to keep their pets lawfully. The ban on keeping ferrets as pets has been in California for about 80 years now.

The Legalize Ferrets campaigners were given the opportunity to address the California Fish and Game Commission in February. During the address, the leader of the campaign, Pat Wright, said that, “There is no reason the ownership of the domesticated ferret should be illegal in California. These guys are part of our family. The pet-human bond is a strong one, and you’re stepping on it.”

Wildlife regulators in the state say legalizing the animal would only pose a danger to the wildlife in the state. The officials fear that when the animals are discarded or they manage to escape, their population would increase which might threaten creatures like squirrels, rabbits, nesting birds and other creatures in the state.
