California awards $110 million for energy efficiency and solar projects

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA (BNO NEWS) – The state of California awarded the largest amount of funds through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act for energy efficiency and solar projects, the California Recovery Task Force announced on Thursday.

The funds, $110 million, came from the State Energy Program (SEP) and from municipal financing programs. The objective of this funding is to promote economic vitality and creating a clean energy workforce. It was also said that this will create 1,100 jobs approximately.

“Putting skilled Californians back to work is a main priority of the California Recovery Task Force, and the State Energy Program will help stimulate the economy in all regions of the state,” said Senior Advisor to the Governor and Director of the California Recovery Task Force Herb K. Schultz.

With this announcement, 85 percent of the State Energy Program funds are now committed to energy saving projects.

The California Recovery Task Force was created in 2009 by Governor Schwarzenegger in order to track the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funding coming into the state.
