LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA (BNO NEWS) – The Bridges to Success program, designed to open career paths for children who are most likely to drop out of school, will receive $3 million in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (Recovery Act) funds, California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger announced on Friday.

California currently has a 20% high school dropout rate and the Bridges to Success program aims at reducing such percentage. The $3 million fund will create innovative summer programs mixing work and school experiences in order to encourage students to continue studying at the prospect of having better opportunities after graduating.

“We must prepare our students so that they can develop the skills necessary to compete in a rapidly-changing and technologically-sophisticated economy,” said Governor Schwarzenegger.

“This program offers summer jobs to students and will help them better understand the connection between school and a successful career.”
