RFK Bridge May 6 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Reports came in last night at around midnight , EST that a suspicious abandoned truck had caused one of New York City’s busiest bridges to close down. The Robert F Kennedy (RFK) section of the Triborough bridge which connects Manhattan, Queens, and the Bronx, was shut down as bomb squad was brought in to investigate the truck.

According to Paul Browne, a spokesman for the New York City Police Department, the truck was a U-Haul rental truck with Arizona plates which witnesses had seen a man running away from. They reported that the truck was “smelling of gasoline.” He said that the police X-rayed the truck, and examined it thoroughly, even going so far as to cut a hole in the side, too be sure it did not contain an explosive device. He stated, “The first thing they did was conduct X-rays to give them an idea of what was inside the box if anything. They saw nothing. At that point, they cut a hole in side of the truck — on the left side of the truck — so they could visually inspect inside to make sure the X-rays hadn’t missed anything. The X-ray was confirmed, there was nothing inside. They had also inspected the engine, the undercarriage and the cab; all negative for anything dangerous.”

The driver, a man, jumped out and left the truck about 1000 feet from a toll booth, just in front of the Manhattan bound toll plaza. Police are searching for the man, and trying to discover just why he fled the truck.
