Bus Crashes Outside of Phoenix Kills At Least Six

Mar 5 (THAINDIAN NEWS) A bus accident which took place on the Gila River Indian Reservation near the Sacaton Community has killed at least 6 people, and there may be more. The six who are confirmed dead were thrown about 10 yards from the bus and killed earlier this morning when the bus struck a pickup truck and rolled over on the interstate, according to the state police.

The tragic crash occurred at around 5:30 am this morning (Friday). Department of Public Safety spokesman Bart Graves said that the two men and four women were all inside the bus when it crashed, and that one of them was thrown at least 25 yards. There were at least 22 passengers, traveling from central Mexico to Los Angeles. All of the surviving 16 passengers were injured. By mid-morning the bodies of the deceased were all covered with blue tarps and it is yet unknown whether another victim is pinned under the bus.

Eight victims were taken to Maricopa Medical Center, and six of those were listed in critical condition. Included in their injuries were broken spine, pelvis, and head injuries, according to hospital spokesperson Michael Murphy.

Four other patients were taken to Scottsdale Healthcare Osborn Hospital. Two of those were listed in critical condition and two in good. Three others, 2 in good condition, and one in critical were taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix. Banner Good Samaritan Hospital in Phoenix has the other two patients, but their conditions were not given as of yet.
