Oct 25, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Brush High School in their annual ‘Think Pink’ event raised around $1000 for research in breast cancer. The volleyball team of the school in association with Beetdigger Booster Club raised the money recently to ensure development in research in the field of breast cancer. The funds were raised considering the fact that the month of October is the National Breast Cancer Awareness month. The event is named as ‘Think Pink’ as the players of the volleyball team use the pink color to decorate their entire gymnasium.
Although Brush High School was the first to pioneer the ‘Think Pink’ events but all the country high schools have also organized the similar events that have raised funds for the cause of breast cancer. The Breast Cancer Awareness event was hugely popular among all the students and was widely attended by them. In a rather unique initiative, pink volleyballs which were referred to as Cancer Awareness volleyballs were donated by Brian Grennan, member of the Star Athletic Team and were signed by the whole volleyball team of the school. Moreover, a special Breast Cancer Awareness quilt was also created that was later auctioned by Auctioneer John Clatworthy. At the end of the day, funds to the tune of $1,136 were collected from the event including cash donations that were gathered simultaneously.
The Brush High School comprises of around 1700 students and it is named after the Ohio born inventor Charles F. Brush known for inventing the arc lights, with the school being situated in Ohio. The school also houses a number of popular athletic clubs as a lot of emphasis is given to sports and athletics.
