Oct 27 (THAINDIAN NEWS) A poor swimmer, British tourist Michael Hauffe could only look on in horror as his wife and her friend were swept away from their husbands by a huge wave on a California beach. Ann Hauffe and her friend, Angela Jewell were both washed into the ocean as their husbands stood shocked, and begging for help on the Carmel River Beach.

Hauffe ran for help for his wife and her friend, both sixty-three years old, and Jewell was soon found alive by rescuers. Mrs Hauffe was sadly pulled farther out to sea, and was not found for ninety minutes after the search began.

An official stated that the local strong surf can be unexpected to visitors, and can be deadly to those tourists who try to escape it on their own. The Superintendent of State Parks, Dana Jones added, ‘If anyone gets into difficulties near the shoreline, they should wait just beyond where the surf breaks and wait for rescuers.’ according to ‘The Daily Mail’.
