California, Oct 27 (THAINDIAN NEWS) A 63-year-old British woman has died after drowning in California.

Ann Hauffe and her friends were walking on the beach of the Californian beach when a giant wave swept her and her friend, Angela Jewell into the sea.

The incident happened on Monday and the two ladies’ husbands stood and watched in horror as the two ladies were dragged some 300 ft into the sea. Lifeguards managed to reach 63-year-old Jewell but Ann disappeared.

However a rescue helicopter later spotted Ann and after being taken from the sea 90 minutes later, she died at a Community Hospital nearby where attempts to resuscitate her failed.

Throughout the drama, Anna’s 66-year-old husband, Michael waited on the beach for word on her wife’s whereabouts. He told reporters that though he saw the two women being pulled into the sea, he chose to rather seek for help because he is not a strong swimmer.

The couple had two sons and a daughter and they have their home in Beverly Hills where they are enjoying their retirement. The other woman, Jewell has recovered and is in good health.

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office has confirmed the death and has offered condolences to the family.
