British-flagged ship hijacked off Somalia
January 2nd, 2010 - 6:39 pm ICT by BNO NewsLONDON (BNO NEWS) — Somali pirates on Saturday hijacked a British-flagged ship off the coast of Somalia, British officials said.
A spokeswoman for Britain’s Foreign Office confirmed pirates had hijacked the “Asian Glory” and said no UK nationals were on board.
Another official with knowledge of the situation, who asked not to be identified, said 25 crew members were on board. “There were no casualties,” she said.
The official said the ship was hijacked early Saturday morning local time, and said five Indians, eight Bulgarian, ten Ukrainian and two Romanian were on board.
Hundreds of people remain as hostages aboard several ships that have been hijacked off Somalia and in the Gulf of Aden.
