British Fashion Designer Catheirne Walker Expires

diana September 27, 2010 (Pen Men at Work): Catherine Walker the famous British designer and well known figure of the International Fashion world recently died at the age of 65. Catherine was battling cancer at the time of her death. Born in France in 1945 Catherine’s real name was Catherine Marguerite Marie-Therese Baheux. She was well known for providing more than 1000 different outfits for Princess Di or Lady Diana. After her infamous car accident Lady Diana was buried in a black dress designed by Catherine Walker too.

The famous designer studied philosophy at the Universities of Lile and Aix-en province of France before moving to Britain. Catherine met her husband John Walker during her stay in London and decided to stay on. Catherine’s husband died a premature death in 1975 and she was left with the task of raising their two daughters by herself. Catherine enrolled into a fashion course and started her own boutique soon after.

She was a brave woman who overcame the sorrow of widowhood at a young age and raised a loving family despite being part of the highly competitive fashion industry. Throughout her life Catherine fought cancer twice with great bravado. She is responsible for single handedly building one of the most successful; British Couture lines that has been appreciated by women all over the world.

Catherine has dressed some of the most beautiful women in the world and her dresses embodied the true essence of the modern woman. Catherine Walker also designed the wedding dress for Lady Helen taylor. In the past few years, Catherine was not keeping well but she had trained a loyal design team to carry on her work in the name of Catherine Walker & Co.

She was named the Couture Designer of the Year in 1990 British Fashion Awards. Catherine is survived by her daughters who are determined to carry on the legacy of their mother.
