British airman killed, two injured in avalanche in Germany
February 5th, 2010 - 2:58 am ICT by BNO NewsBERLIN (BNO NEWS) — One British airman was killed and two others were injured when they were caught in an avalanche in southwest Germany on Thursday, Britain’s Ministry of Defence said.
“It is with great sadness the Ministry of Defence must confirm that an RAF service person has been killed in Oberstdorf, Bavaria,” a spokesman said. “The individual was taking part in an adventurous training exercise when he was caught in an avalanche.”
The airman’s next of kin has been informed and requested a period of grace before further details are released to the public. The Ministry also said that two other service members sustained minor injuries.
The incident happened in the Allgäu Allps, a mountain range located near Bavaria, where the men were part of a 27-member group who were on a week-long training course in the Allgäu Allps.
