London, Nov 10 (THAINDIAN NEWS) At the age of 96 years, Britain’s oldest shop worker has finally retired. Syd Prior worked at B&Q as greeter for more than 20 years. He enjoyed working at the shop and said it helped keep him active and young.

Prior said he intends to spend the remainder of his years enjoying his meal and spending more time with his friends. Prior will be 97 years on Friday and he intends to spend the time reflecting back on his life.

He revealed that he has never been out of job since he was 14 years. B&G hired him at the age where several others will be heading out of job. When the shop hired him, Prior was 76 years and he has maintained his job for two decades.

The World War II veteran told reporters that, “Working with people of all ages gives youngsters the chance to learn a little from an old timer like myself, and they help to keep me young at heart.”

He served with the Royal Corps of Signalmen and was stationed at the North Africa and later in Italy.

B&G says they will honor Prior at his 97th birthday which will be observed on Friday.
