Britain’s Giant red Exmoor Emperor shot dead
October 25th, 2010 - 10:47 pm ICT by Aishwarya BhattLondon, Oct 25 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Deer experts and wildlife enthusiasts are deeply angered by the killing of a red stag.
The animal though was not an ordinary red stag. It was thought to be the biggest red stag in Britain with the weight at 135 kg and a height of 9 feet. The photographer that first captured the animal on camera named the animal Exmoor Emperor.
It is believed that the animal was not poached but rather killed by a licensed hunter in the country. It was killed near the Tiverton to Barnstaple road.
Animal rights activists argue that the wild animals should be protected during the mating season. The red stag deer is the biggest native land animal in Britain.
A deer management expert in Exmoor, Peter Donnelly said it was a shame the animal was slaughtered during the mating season. It was thought to be the biggest wild animal in Britain.
Deer heads are displayed as a trophy on the walls in some homes. Sometimes the cost of having the deer head on your wall can cost some £1,000 but it is believed some heads are far more expensive than that and the head of Exmoor Emperor might have not been an exception.
