Brian David Mitchell seems to be competent enough to stand trial
December 3rd, 2009 - 10:32 pm ICT by Aishwarya Bhatt ( Leave a comment )Salt Lake City, Dec 3 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Even though he has been diagnosed with a rare delusional disorder and was twice deemed incompetent for trial in a state criminal case, but these days he does seem competent enough to stand trial because he said to an FBI agent that he expected the world would see him as a “child predator, sexual deviant, a monster.” He was charged in the kidnapping of Elizabeth Smart.
The FBI agent, George Dougherty, also testified during a federal court competency hearing that the culprit Brian David Mitchell had also asked for an explanation of what would follow his arrest. All these questions and an understanding of how he would be seen by the world does point to a lucid mind.
Dougherty said that he thought Mitchell was intelligent and understood what was ahead in the judicial process. “He was very careful about how he would answer the questions,” Dougherty said. “Almost like he was sitting on the witness stand. He was very calculated.”
This hearing will look into the charges that Brian David Mitchell is lucid enough to defend himself on charges of kidnapping and unlawful transportation of a minor across state lines.
Some people even say that Brian Mitchell is smart enough and he faked all the symptoms so that he could escape the sentencing and the trial.
