Colorado, Nov. 5, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The ski resort town of Breckenridge in Colorado is to become the latest place to legalize marijuana. Earlier, the people of Maine had voted for the legalization of marijuana. The citizens voted for the legalization of nonprofit organizations to provide marijuana to patients in limited amounts. It became the third American state to recognize the use of marijuana for medical purposes.
Breckenridge voters had to decide whether they would support the legalization of allowing adults to carry a certain amount of marijuana. However, the purpose in the case of Breckenridge is not medical but recreational. The issue was placed on ballot and the voters passed it with an overwhelming majority. They managed to gather almost three times the total number of signatures that was required to pass the measure. The measure will come into effect from the 1st of January.
The Measure 2F is going to allow the adult citizens of the state, aged 21 or above to possess an ounce of marijuana. The law will also authorize the people to carry with them other pot paraphernalia like bongs, pipes and blubbers. Breckenridge is likely to become the first state to allow marijuana paraphernalia.Till now, possession of marijuana or anything associated with it was a state crime for people who did not have a medical clearance. The enforcement of the law is going to remove all criminal penalties associated with the possession of marijuana. It is being considered quite safe as it will only allow restricted use of the drug for adults. Penalties for other offenses like getting “stoned” publicly will remain the same.

Finally, a small pocket of sanity on the issue of cannabis. I must visit this town. I’ll bet their tourism revenue increases.
