BREAKING NEWS: One dead and 70 injured in DC train crash
June 23rd, 2009 - 5:10 am ICT by John Le FevreOne person is dead and up to 70 people are reported injured following a two train collision near the Fort Totten Metro station in Washington DC this afternoon.
Washington DC Fire and EMS spokesperson Alan Etter confirmed a collision occurred on the red line at a little after 5pm local time and said that at least one person had been killed and many of the injured were suffering serious and critical injuries.
Passengers are reportedly still trapped inside the wrecked of the two trains with witnesses saying one train is resting on top of the other.
Rescue crews are at the scene attempting to get to the trapped passengers and the Metro has shut down the entire red line and introduced a bus bridge around the accident scene on the Langley Park Bridge at the intersection of 3rd and Oglethorpe N.E.
