Brave pilot manages to land plane after the plane hit a deer
October 20th, 2010 - 9:13 pm ICT by Aishwarya BhattTitusville, Oct 20 (THAINDIAN NEWS) A pilot managed to land his single engine plane safely on Monday after the plane hit a deer on the runway during the takeoff.
Special rescue team was dispatched to the airport where the plane landed at central Florida. The special rescue team is trained to deal with such emergency landings.
The plane was substantially damaged in the accident that happened on Monday night. One of the wings of the plane was slightly damaged in the accident. The incident that happened at the Space Coast Regional Airport also resulted in the damage of the plane’s gear.
During the plane’s landing which was carefully monitored, the plane tilted slightly with one wing scrapping the runway of the airport. However the pilot managed to control the plane before finally bringing it to a halt to the relief of all those present.
No one was injured in the accident but the deer died from the impact of the collision near the runway. The airport has a 9-foot fence surrounding it and it was surprising how the deer ended up on the runway.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
