London, Nov 7 (THAINDIAN NEWS) It is often said that you need to be determined and everything can be achieved. That statement turned out to be very true for a 14-year-old boy, Simeon Fairburn. He faced the grim possibility of amputation after he developed a very rare condition called osteofibrous dysplasia. Osteofibrou dysplasia is a condition that where the body grows tumor instead of a bone.

Since Fairburn’s condition was detected, he has undergone 20 surgical operations in 2 years to have the tumor removed. His leg was however not amputated. Instead, doctors fitted a brace to his leg and encouraged him to turn the screws four times daily to encourage the bone to grow at a rate of 1mm after every procedure.

After several turns, Fairburn now has the realistic chance of walking again because his bone is now grown to fill where the tumor initially filled. Well being disciplined seem to have worked for little Fairburn and it is hoped that he completely recover from the condition.

He had a dream of playing basketball and if the condition is properly taken care of, there is no way he can’t do that now.
