Cortez, Colo, Dec.18, (THAINDIAN NEWS) In a rather bizarre incident, a 12 year old boy from Colorado received injuries when he shot himself in his house, while playing with a pistol. Local police authorities have revealed that the young boy was playing with the .22-caliber pistol which he had found behind the Christmas tree present in his house. Reportedly, in the incident the boy hurt his leg although the injury was not something severe.
The incident reportedly took place earlier this week when his parents were not present in the house. Although, the boy’s siblings were supposedly present at the time of the incident, no one suffered any injuries apart from the boy himself. Gerald Wallace, the Montezuma County Sheriff has expressed that the incident happened while the young boy was fiddling with the loaded gun. He also emphasized that it is unlikely that charges would be pressed against the parents for negligence as they had supposedly kept the weapon away from the reach of the children. Moreover, the sheriff also implied that the parents could not be directly blamed for the incident as they did not have any intentions of keeping the weapon in the open. According to him, the incident resulted as the the boy was supposedly “digging around” the house which enabled him to find the loaded gun.
However, details as to why the dangerous weapon was kept behind the Christmas tree still remains unclear. Although, the young boy did not receive any major injuries, he was just lucky enough to escape death as the incident could have had dangerous consequences.
