Boston subway nearly kills drunken woman who fell on tracks

Boston, Nov 11 (THAINDIAN NEWS) A Boston subway train stopped just in time on the tracks, otherwise the drunken woman who had fallen on the tracks in front of the incoming train would have been crushed to death. The driver of the train who stopped just in time is now being hailed as a hero and savior.

Charice Lewis got a radio call from fellow Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority employee Jacqueline Osorio, who was standing on the platform at North Station on Friday night when she saw the drunken woman tumble on the tracks.

Lewis, saw passengers on the platform frantically waving their arms signaling to stop the train, immediately tugged put the emergency brake in action.

“As I’m approaching, the lady pops her head up. And I’m like, ‘Oh my God, someone’s in the pit,’” Lewis said.

“So I just threw it in emergency, just like I’m supposed to do, and it stopped just in time not to hit her.”

Lewis and Osorio were recognized by state Transportation Secretary Jeffrey Mullan on Monday and received a call of congratulations from Gov. Deval Patrick.

The woman was taken to the hospital for medical evaluation and on the way she told the cops that she had been drinking and hence lost her balance on the platform. Her name was not revealed to the media.
