October 16th, 2010 - 12:54 am ICT by Angela Kaye Mason

Oct 15 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Boss’s Day, which is also called Bosses Day or National Boss Day, is a holiday set aside to celebrate bosses in the United States and in Canada. Although it is usually held on October 16th, it will be celebrated today, October 15th for this year, 2010, since the 16th falls on a Saturday.

The day was registered in 1958, by Patricia Bays Haroski as “National Boss Day”. She was working for ‘State Farm Insurance’ at the time, and October 16 was actually her boss( who was also her dad)’s birthday. In 1962, the request was backed by Illinois governor Otto Kerner, and the day was proclaimed to be official.

According to Emily Post it is not proper etiquette to give a gift to your boss unless it is from a group of employees, so as to avoid looking like you are trying to obtain favoritism. Hallmark card Company did not even offer a ‘Bosses Day’ card until 1979, a line which had increased 90 percent in 2007.

Presently there are all sorts of ecards, as well as Facebook messages, sms, and other ways to electronically show your boss that you appreciate them.
