Bucharest, July 22 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The remains of Romania’s one time dictator - Nicolae Ceausescu and that of his wife - Elena Ceausescu have been exhumed to confirm if indeed the bodies in the grave belong to them.

The order for the exhumation was granted after the only surviving child and son-in-law of the Ceausescu asked the court to allow them to put to rest once and for all the debate about the identity of the bodies in the grave.

But after seeing the body, the son-in-law of the Ceausescu’s, Mircea Oprean said he believes the bodies especially the one belonging to his late father-in-law is indeed that of Nicolae. He identified the coat of his father in-law. But he has to wait for at least 6 months to confirm if the bodies are indeed that of the Ceausescu’s. Samples have been taken for DNA tests to be done. The bodies were immediately re-buried after the sample was taken.

The Ceausescu’s were one time the most powerful family in Romania. Nicolae Ceausescu ruled Romania between the period of 1965 to 1989 before his regime was toppled and the couple executed by firing squad. The couple was killed after a mock trial on Christmas day in 1989. After their execution, the couple was immediately buried.

Nicolae and Elena had three children but only one, Valentin Ceausescu is still alive.
