bob1Iceland, July 6, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The remains of noted American Chess player Bobby Fischer were exhumed recently in Iceland’s Laugardaelir Church cemetery. It was ordered by the Apex court to resolve a paternity claim. The test will reveal whether he was the father of a Filipino girl named Jinky Young. His corpse was dug up and a priest, a doctor and a sheriff was present at the cemetery on Sunday when it was done. The remains of his body were buried again after the DNA samples were extracted. He passed away in January 2008.

After his death the tussle over his property began between his nephews, Marilyn Young, the mother of the Filipino girl and Miyoko Watai, Japanese Chess Association’s head who reportedly married the chess player in 2004. The tussle got complicated by the fact that he did not leave behind any will and his property is worth $2 million. He passed away at the age of 64. The mother of the 9 year old girl claimed that she had a liaison with the chess player and the Supreme Court of Iceland ordered the DNA test. The truth of the claim will be proved shortly.

Bobby Fischer rose to fame after defeating the then Soviet Union’s Boris Spassky in 1972. He became the ideal for the Americans after his win but later he ruined his position owing to his erratic and sometimes outrageous behavior. He dropped out of professional chess and lost his title in 1975. He left the USA and became a citizen of Iceland. He lived in Iceland from the year 2005 till death claimed him in 2008.
