Bob Barker Helps 25 Bolivian Lions
February 17th, 2011 - 8:41 pm ICT by Aishwarya BhattNew York City, Feb 17 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Bob Barker played a crucial role in the rescue of about 25 Bolivian lions that were saved from deplorable conditions.
The animals were rescued from several Bolivian circuses where they were made to work under deplorable conditions. The animals had to be rescued after the Bolivian government passed a law banning the use of animals in all kind of performances.
Barker financed the rescue of the animals and they were expected at the Denver International Airport on Wednesday at noon.
The animals will be sent to the Wildlife Sanctuary in Colorado after they get to the United States. They will be retrained and reintroduced to the wild later. Three of the cubs have been kept in a single cage with their mother. The remaining animals are being kept in a cage each.
In all 13 male and 12 female lions were rescued during the operation. The animals were given sedative to make them to rest during the trip from Bolivia.
Special precautions would be made to ensure that the animals survive the change in climatic conditions. A 15,000-square-foot biosphere would be where the animals’ home to help them adjust to the new temperature.
