March 25, 2010 (Pen Men at Work): A boat made of 12,000 plastic bottles has begun to go on an expedition from San Francisco to Sydney. The mission of the boat is to disseminate consciousness about toxic waste in the oceanic zones of the globe. This crusade has been spearheaded by the prominent conservationist and banking inheritor, David De Rothschild. Rothschild and a troop got started on the fittingly titled ‘Plastiki catamaran’. Their voyage will be of 11,000 nautical miles. Their expedition will pass beyond the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. As the name suggests, it is an ocean of rubbish approximately five times the extent of the United Kingdom or twice the mass of Texas.

In keeping with the standpoint of the United Nations, four out of five artificial bottles finish up in a landfill. David De Rothschild articulated to the media at the commencement of the month that the time has arrived in order to trounce hazardous garbage and trash. He also declared that this is an environmental matter that is no longer in the mentality of the people. It is no longer observed and featured prominently in the media. However, he vocalized that this is a subject that desperately requires a concrete solution.

The 31-year-old buccaneer has accomplished voyages to both the poles and an assortment of tropical forests. He was already twittering on Saturday, hours after the boat embarked on its cruise of three months. He uttered that he had already unearthed the first aquatic debris i.e. a mug of plastic.

The catamaran is motorized by solar, wind and marine turbines. An exercise bike will energize its laptops.
