Blue Grass, IA man sentenced for federal bank robbery

DES MOINES, IOWA (BNO NEWS) – An Iowa man was sentenced for federal bank robbery charges, prosecutors said on Friday.

John Anthony Hutter, 49, of Blue Grass, Iowa approached a cleaning lady that exited the back door of Valley Bank in Davenport, Iowa, pulling a silver revolver from his pocket, ordering her to open the back door to the bank.

Forcing her to walk to the bank teller with the gun placed in her back, Hutter ordered the teller to do as she says. He then proceeded to grab the cash drawer which was sitting on the counter and left through the same door he had entered.

The cash drawer stolen by Hutter contained $8825.The gun was later recovered in an open field near the bank and was determined to be a plastic toy replica gun.

Numerous individuals identified Hutter as the suspect in the robbery as a result of the television broadcast of the bank surveillance video.

Hutter was sentenced to 120 months imprisonment for one count of bank robbery and will serve a term of 4 years of supervised release following his incarceration, paying an assessment of $100 to Crime Victims Fund. He will also have to pay $8,278.00 in restitution to Valley.
