Blaze at Philippines hotel kills 15, injures others

TUGUEGARAO CITY, PHILIPPINES (BNO NEWS) — More than a dozen people were killed on Sunday when a fire broke out at a hotel in the northern Philippine province of Cagayan, local media reported.

The blaze broke out at around 1 a.m. local time at the Sunshine Auto and Bike Supply shop, which is located on the ground floor of the five-story Bed and Breakfast Pension House in Tuguegarao City. It quickly spread through the building, trapping people inside.

The state-run Philippines News Agency (PNA) cited Tuguegarao City police chief Supt. Pedro Martirez as saying that fifteen bodies had been recovered, including nine nursing students who were to take an exam later on Sunday.

Twelve others were taken to various hospitals where they remain in a stable condition.

The blaze was brought under control at around 5 a.m. local time. The cause is being investigated.
