Bladeless fan launched
October 14th, 2009 - 10:08 pm ICT by Aishwarya Bhatt ( Leave a comment )London, Oct 14 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The Bladeless fan called the Air Multiplier is the first ever fan without rotating blades, which uses a combination of basic physics and cutting edge aerodynamics to cool the air and then circulate it.
The device has a plastic loop, positioned on a round base, which has the electric motor, in its base.
According to its manufacturers: “A jet of air passes over an airfoil-shaped ramp that channels its direction. Surrounding air is drawn into the airflow. Which means that a small fan in the base throws out small jets of air, which pass over a curved surface, similar to an airplane wing.
This in turn creates a powerful jet stream, drawing through more air from behind and beside the fan.”
As per the name, Air Multiplier multiples and throws out 15 times more air than its motor creates.
Its inventor is Sir James Dyson, who was knighted sometime ago. He had also made rapid strides in researching and then developing the bagless vacuum cleaner. Recently he had also transformed UK’s public toilets with his revolutionary hand-dryer.
Dyson said that he had long been disappointed by conventional fans, which relied on technology that had hardly changed since 1880. He explained: “Their spinning blades chop up the airflow, causing annoying buffeting. They’re hard to clean. And children always want to poke their fingers through the grille. So we’ve developed a new type of fan that doesn’t use blades.”
