Oct 14 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Two bus drivers for the Blackpool Transit company have been banned by their managers for being “too fat”. They were also warned that if they do not lose weight within the next month, they will face pay cuts. A report from MetroUK explains that the company expressed fears that the driver’s seat of the buses will not be able to stand under the weight of the bus drivers.

The two drivers together weigh 40 stone. They have been ordered to lose a half a stone each in the next month’s time. Other drivers are calling the whole incident “a disgrace” and see it as wrong on the part of the bus company.

One of the other drivers told the Daily Telegraph, ‘It’s discriminating against them and they are very upset. Why can’t they give incentives to lose weight rather than send people home with the worry of possibly losing pay in the future?’

Blackpool stated via John Boughton, regional industrial organizer for the Unite Union, ‘Currently two men are suspended with full pay. They have been told they need to lose 7 lb in four weeks. If they haven’t lost this weight, they have been told they will go on unpaid suspension for 12 months. We are dealing with this internally.”
