Bill Clinton reluctantly backs Obama

June 25th, 2008 - 2:49 pm ICT by David M N James -

Having been left short of options and faced by the ugly glare of the media, former president BILL Clinton decided to say he supports Obama, though in such a faint voice that it was notable he was not happy about his decision. Clinton told reporters that he supports senator Obama through his spokesman Matt McKenna. Matt told reporters in an email statement which was brief and abrasive that “Former President Clinton is obviously committed to doing whatever he can and is asked to do to ensure Senator Obama is the next president of the United States,”

Clinton over the weekend had voiced his confidence in Obama. He was quoted saying he was impressed by the Democratic presidential candidate’s energy policy. However, Clinton has refused to publicly support Mr Obama who won the democratic nomination trouncing the former president’s wife. According to the Obama camp spokespeople, Obama is desperate to have the Clinton by his side since they are crucial and influential to millions. Loosing them will be a blow to his bid. He told reporters that he was optimistic to discuss this with Bill Clinton but he was in Europe, he added “But we’re looking forward to setting up a long conversation,” the Illinois senator told reporters as he traveled to Los Angeles. “He’s as smart as they come. He’s a great strategist. We’re going to want him campaigning.”
