Best College List of 2011 Released by US News Media Group
August 18th, 2010 - 1:02 am ICT by Angela Kaye MasonAug 17 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Based on the rankings of 1400 schools across the United States, the “Best Colleges of 2011” have been released today (Tuesday) by the US News Media Group, with Harvard topping off the list among the country’s best universities, and Williams College coming in as the best National Liberal Arts college.
The categories which determine who makes the top of this list were created by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. These rankings have become the most comprehensive research tool over the last twenty years, for those students who are deciding which college to attend, along with their parents.
The categories, which compare accredited four year colleges, are based on sixteen different very accepted indicators of excellence. The main quality measurements were such things as faculty resources, graduation rates as well as retention rates, peer assessment, student selectivity, alumni giving, financial resources, and for the National Liberal Art Colleges, graduation rate performance as well as high school counsellor ratings.
The top five National Universities are:Harvard University, Princeton University, Yale University, Columbia University, and Stanford University, and the best National Liberal Arts Colleges are:
Williams College, Amherst College, Swarthmore College, Middlebury College, and Wellesley College.
