Dec 14 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Bernie Madoff, the imprisoned financier whose son was found dead, hanging from a dog leash in his apartment on Saturday will not attempt to attend his son’s funeral, but will instead have a private ceremony in the North Carolina prison where he is staying.
Mark Madoff, the older son of Bernie Madoff committed suicide by hanging himself in his Manhattan apartment early on Saturday, two years from the date of his father’s arrest, according to reports. His father, Bernie was taken into custody two years ago on charges that he had cheated thousands of people out of their money…a sum of billions of dollars. Bernie is now serving a one hundred fifty year sentence for his conviction of fraud. Bernie’s crimes became known as the world’s largest Ponzi scheme.
Bernie Madoff’s attorney, Ira Sorkin stated that he will mourn privately and did not mention whether or not he had even considered attending the funeral of his son. The statement from the attorney simply said, “Mr. Madoff will not be attending the funeral out of consideration for his daughter-in-law’s and grandchildren’s privacy. He will be conducting a private service on his own where he is presently incarcerated.”
Mark Madoff left behind a wife and four children, one of whom was a two year old sleeping in the next room from where his dad killed himself. The baby was alone until someone discovered Madoff, but was said to be unharmed.
