Dec 12, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Mark Madoff, Bernard Madoff’s son was found hanging on Saturday in his lavish SoHo apartment from ceiling pipe as his two-year-old son Nicholas slept in the nearby room. It was the second anniversary of his father the jailed financier Bernard Madoff’s arrest, who was involved in Ponzi Scheme, the biggest fraud ever in Wall Street. The law enforcement officials said that his father-in-law Martin London discovered his body at around 7.30am in the morning. Mark Madoff was 46-year-old.
Mark Madoff’s wife Stephanie first raised the alarm when she received an email from her husband where he reportedly wrote that he could not take the pressure and curse which was put on him by his swindling father. Though Mark Madoff and his brother Andrew Madoff did not face any criminal charges in the Ponzi scheme but they were under police scanner for many days as they were involved in their father’s family business. Paul Browne, the police spokesman said that the police found him hanging in his apartment and it seemed to be an apparent suicide. Martin Flumenbaum, the lawyer of his family said that Mark Madoff’s death is an unnecessary and terrible tragedy.
Martin Flumenbaum also said that Mark Madoff was the victim of his father’s “monstrous crime” and hence he finally surrendered to two years of pressures from accusations. He said that his family is saddened by the turn of events which claimed Mark Madoff’s life. On the other hand, it was Mark Madoff and his brother, who informed police that his father’s Ponzi scheme is on the verge of collapse. His mother Ruth Madoff did not comment anything to the media but her attorney said that she is completely heartbroken.
