February 11th, 2010 - 11:36 pm ICT by BNO NewsHAMILTON, BERMUDA (BNO NEWS) — Bermuda has agreed to accept a number of patients from earthquake-ravaged Haiti, the government said on Thursday.
The Bermuda government’s decision to accept patients airlifted out of Haiti comes after a request was made by the United States Government. “The Consul General conveyed the request,” said Arnold Minors, Press Secretary to Premier Ewart Brown.
Minors said KEMH Chief of Staff Dr. Donald Thomas will hold discussions about the number of patients they’ll accept and when they will arrive.
The earthquake in Haiti happened on January 12, about 15 miles west-southwest of Port-au-Prince. As of Wednesday, at least 217,000 people had been confirmed dead. The disaster is one of the most deadliest in recorded history.
