beaver-islandx-largeNov 9, (THAINDIAN NEWS) It is quite hard to imagine a province of the united states where residents are living happily without technology that has otherwise become a part and parcel of the daily lives of the Americans. However, for the residents of the serene Beaver island technology at best remains an alien word. The remote island located at the remote part of Michigan is blissfully unaware of the technological innovations that are making inroads into the other parts of USA Rapidly with each passing day. Some residents of the islands do not own cellphone and are averse to the idea of using Internet as well. However, the health center of the island provides the residents a chance to interact with the outer world by means of technology. They use a Wide-screen Television for video conferencing with another group in Michigan’s Charlevoix.

Technology is making inroads to the island slowly with time. The arrival of high speed Internet has come as a boon for some of the residents who were hitherto unused to its several advantages that can change lives for better. They are waking up to the possibilities of shopping on the web, playing a plethora of interactive games etc. The kids in the region however are technologically more advanced owing to their course curriculum which has a fair amount of on-line learning.

For a lot of residents the only touch with technology until a few years back was radio and TV sets. Some of them have an inherent feeling that this advent and spread of technology may eventually affect the serenity and calmness of the ambience and life in the island.
