Bear Gall Bladder Uses Posing A Threat To The Species

Nov 30, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The gallbladders of bears are known to have a number of uses and it can be used for treating a number of ailments. Other natural and synthetic substances accepted in traditional medicine can also be substituted with the components available in a bears’ gall bladder to yield the same results. According to the Humane Society of the United States, the bear gallbladders is used in Asian countries for medicinal purposes and this has resulted in a huge increase in bear poaching in the recent years.
The Humane Society of the United States have come to the conclusion that in some parts of the world especially in Asia, the gall bladder of a bear would cost as much as $3,000, as it serves the purpose of treating diseases like fever, liver disease, convulsions, diabetes, and heart ailments. It was further explained that Asia is blessed with five main species of bear, namely brown bear, Asiatic black bear, giant panda, sloth bear and sun bear. However, each of these species are getting more vulnerable to hunting activities and human atrocities, especially in China. The traditional medicinal trade of many countries has put the species under high risk. Even if they are not killed, their gall bladders are operated out in order to sell them at a higher price to the medicinal industry.
The Humane Society of the United States has also stated that this atrocities are no more limited to just China. Ever since the uses of bears’ gall bladder came into limelight, its wrath has reached United States as well. On November 18, a tiny bear cub was found in Virginia’s Prince William Park, whose gall bladder was removed and sold to the illegal and notorious market for bear gall bladders. There has also been a recent increase in the hunting of America’s black and brown bears in United states.
