bildeAug 24, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The Humane Society of the United States leaders are urging the state lawmakers to ban the controversy laden “bear baying” competitions. The noted animal protection organization recently arranged for a press conference where footage of the bear baying was shown. The group members slammed the video calling it barbaric. An adult black bear was subjected to extreme torture and was attacked by a number of menacing dogs as was shown in the video.

The organization reported that this game is only held in South Carolina and the winners take home prize and awards. Even the dog owners from other states arrive in the state because their own states do not support the practice. However, the bear baying supporters think it gives them a chance to evaluate dogs. Another similar practice, hog dog fight was earlier outlawed. The organization got to know about the practice in 2006. The video has created a sensation in the media. It has been reported that after such events the bears are left injured and covered in saliva and blood. The opponents of the practice say that during the baying the dogs are unleashed on the bear and they do not allow the animal to take rest and go on barking at it.

The South Carolina laws on the issue are hazy at best and that has prompted the interested lot to hold the events in the state. However, animal rights activists are dead against the practice and they are of the opinion that it should be prohibited and those who violate the law should be imprisoned with dire consequences.
