Oakland, Calif., Oct.30, (THAINDIAN NEWS) People using the Bay Bridge will have to divert to other routes even on Friday morning, as the repairing work has not yet completed, according to the sources. The bridge was closed from Tuesday, after one of the cables had snapped. Caltrans had started with the repairing works of the bridge immediately after the incident and expected that normal traffic through the bridge would be restored from Friday morning onwards. However, sources later stated that the bridge would not be open from Friday morning, yet there has been expectations that the bridge would open for traffic from Friday night.
Earlier it was stated that Caltrans expected the repairing works to get over by Thursday and the bridge would be inspected before the rush hours of Friday morning. They needed to test several factors and it would be a time consuming process. Therefore, it was suggested that people should be prepared to use the alternate routes on Friday also.
As stated by the sources, Caltrans has completed the welding of the damaged part. They were just inserting new steel, which is expected to be over within a short period of time. Experts would do the necessary testings and inspection after the works are over. The bridge will reopen for traffic, once all these works are done. Closing of the Bay Bridge for several days has caused a huge problem for the traffic. Sources stated that traffic on the alternate roads has increased excessively as people could not use the bridge. The conditions are expected to return to normal by this weekend.
