bay-bridgeThe one ordeal that commuters in the San Francisco area are going to have to face over the period of the long, extended Labor Day weekend, is that the Bay Bridge will remain shut down to traffic, which began from 8 p.m. on Thursday, September 3 to 5 a.m. this coming Tuesday, September 8.

John Goodwin, the spokesperson for the Metropolitan Transportation Commission has said that the shut down of the bridge is going to allow the workers a lot of time to remove a 30,000 ton, 300 foot long section of the double-deck from the eastern extension and replace it with another.

This construction work is going to erect a brand new double-deck section in to place. This new section is going to be a part of the short detour on which the traffic is going to be routed to, until the Bay Bridge is made available for general commuting in 2013.

During this long weekend however, people who use their cars to move across one part of the town to the other, will face some trouble. They have a few option on their list though, one of which is the CarShare, which allows for its members to pick up a car on the other side of the bay at the BART terminus and head their way.

During the phase of this closure, the BART service is going to be operating round the clock, to lessen the burden of the commuters. Therefore, it might be hoped that the effective paring of the BART and the CarShare will go some miles in cutting down on the problem that will be faced by the people over the Labor Day Weekend.
