Bath salts are a growing drug problem

New York, Jan 24 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Authorities in the United States are scrambling to ban the sale of bath salts that are sold under several names.

Authorities have identified that the chemical which has similar effect as methamphetamine when snorted is an emerging drug problem. The chemical is often sold under several names like Ivory Wave, Red Dove and Vanilla Sky.

Authorities say that the drug can cause hallucinations, increased heart beat, suicidal thoughts and other serious undesirable effects on the user.

The drug is readily available and its cheap cost makes it easy to get into the hands of minors. Amongst the many locations where the drug can be bought include supermarkets, pharmacy shops, fuel stations and other such locations.

Currently leading the bid to ban the drug is the state of Mississippi. Lawmakers are working to get the sale of the chemical banned in the state. Kentucky is also considering similar move and Louisiana has already banned the drug in the state.

The drug’s exposure in the United States has been reported in over 25 states. The drug has already been banned in the United Kingdom where it had been used for much longer.
