Now this is what we call going over the top with oneself. There can be two words to be said about the way in which Senator Barbara Boxer conducted herself. She actually demanded to be addressed as ‘Senator’ instead of being addressed as ‘Ma’am’.

The news was broadcast by Fox news, with the network actually going all the way and calling up an army officer to ask if addressing Boxer as ‘Ma’am was in anyway disrespectful. What was the conclusion of the army man and thereby, the network? That it was a ‘no big deal” issue, that got blown out of proportion by the media willing to harp on it.

The incident took place on June 17, at the EPW hearing, when a testifying military officer began responding to the Senators questions by addressing her as “Ma’am”. Senator Boxer interrupted the army man by saying, “Do me a favor, could you say ‘Senator’ instead of ‘ma’am? It’s just a thing, I worked so hard to get that title, so I’d appreciate it, yes, thank you.”

The testifying military officer, Brigadier General Michael Walsh, was completely floored by the Senator for not addressing her in her proper title. The Senator from California had however forgotten in this exchange, that she herself had not adhered to her own preaching sometimes back. Almost two years ago, when former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice was testifying before the Senator, Boxer had addressed her as ‘Ma’am” three times during the whole procedure of the testimony.

So, her teachings does not apply the Secretary of State but only to her and her immensely inflate ego. This sort of narcissistic attitude is quite unheard of in the present days, but then again, people like Senator Boxer are very few in number to come by nowadays.
