Bank robber from Omaha, Nebraska sentenced to 7 years

OMAHA, NEBRASKA (BNO NEWS) – A man was sentenced to a total of 7 years (84 months) in prison for his conviction of bank robbery in Omaha, Nebraska, U.S. Attorney Deborah Gilg announced on Tuesday.

Michael Hymes, 30, was sentenced to 66 months of imprisonment followed by three years of supervised release for the bank robbery charge and to 18 months for violating his supervised release.

Hymes was convicted in 2004 for robbing the Creighton Federal Credit Union. On August 4, 2009, during his supervised release period, Hymes robbed $2,950 from a First National Bank branch. The bills were traced and law agents located the defendant in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

During his detention, Mr. Hymes admitted the robbery of a Bank of the West branch on July 14, 2009. The Bank of the West lost $3,497 back then.

Along with his prison time, the defendant will also have to pay in restitution the amount of $6,447.
