Ban Ki-moon condemns Israeli plans for 1,600 new housing units in East Jerusalem
March 10th, 2010 - 3:35 pm ICT by BNO NewsUNITED NATIONS (BNO NEWS) — The United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon condemned the approval of plans for the building of 1,600 new housing units in East Jerusalem by the Israeli Ministry of Interior earlier on Tuesday, a UN spokesperson said.
Ban Ki-moon reiterated that settlements are illegal under international law and underscored that settlement activity is contrary to Israel’s obligations under the Roadmap.
The Secretary-General said the approval undermines any movement towards a viable peace process in the Middle East.
