Heene Family picture Fort Collins, Dec 23 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Balloon boy’s parents Richard and Mayumi Heene have been sentenced to jail for carrying out the Balloon boy hoax. A prosecutor has urged a judge to give the man who carried out the balloon boy hoax the maximum punishment of 90 days behind bars. His wife Mayumi Heene faces up to 2 months behind bars.

The father of ‘balloon boy,’ Richard Heene, has also sentenced to four years’ probation for his ‘elaborate hoax’. Richard Heene choked back salty tears as he stood before a judge and apologized profusely for his ‘Balloon Boy’, “I do want to reiterate that I’m very, very sorry.”

When the sentencing was underway then the prosecutors said that a message needs to be sent to other self-promoters that they will be punished for orchestrating hoaxes and that this sentencing ought to be a lesson for them. The prosecutor said that Richard Heene “wasted a lot of manpower and a lot of money in wanting to get himself some publicity.”

The parents of the Balloon boy Richard and Mayumi Heene pleaded guilty to charges that they carried out the balloon stunt in October to promote a reality TV show. They had reported that their 6-year-old son was floating away in a homemade helium balloon, whereas he was safe at home. Rescue efforts were made to trace the balloon and bring the boy to safety. Later when the balloon was found then the rescue workers were surprised to find that there was no one in that balloon.
