According to reports, the Pakistani Taliban leader Baitullah Mehsud is supposedly killed in an air strike. The news has been confirmed by a senior Taliban commander, Kafayat Ullah today. Ullah however, refrained from divulging any further details about the alleged death of the militant commander.
Mehsud, one of the names on the most wanted list in Pakistan, had reportedly been brought down by an air missile strike that had been launched by the CIA.
His death is being considered to be one of the highest achieved feat in the US led campaign. the 35 year old Mehsud has supposedly died from the air strike on Wednesday while he was at his father-in-law’s house, which is located in the Pakistani tribal wastelands of South Waziristan.
A drone aircraft is reported to have fired two Hellfire missiles at the remote farmhouse where he was supposed to have been taking shelter, according to the reports of the intelligence sources. The attack on the supposed destination had been launched early on Wednesday.
According to reports of the Pakistani intelligence, the militant commander was said to be seriously ill after having being diagnosed with a kidney ailment. It is Mehsud, who is said to have instrumented the assassination of the late Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto. He has also been instigated in a number of cases related to suicide bombings.
Earlier this morning, contrary reports had surfaced that Mehsud was severely injured but had survived the attack. Pakistani media have been reporting, quoting intelligence officials that the militant chief has been buried at his home in the Narkosa village.
