BAGHDAD, IRAQ (BNO NEWS) – U.S. Forces in Iraq announced Monday that a base located just outside of the well-known district of Sadr City was transferred to Iraqi authorities on April 30.

Joint Security Station Ur was officially signed over to the Government of Iraq by Captain Timothy Iannacone, commander of Company B, 3rd Battalion, 69th Armor, to Sameer Al Haddad, Secretariat Receivership for the GoI, exchanging signatures on a record of return that transfers control of JSS Ur from American to Iraqi control.

The JSS was previously inhabited by the armor unit as well as the Soldiers of the 2nd Battalion, 44th Brigade of the 11th Iraqi Army Division, but it is now under the sole ownership of the Iraqi Army unit.

U.S. forces will be available to assist the Iraqi Security Forces in accordance with the Security Agreement and will continue to work hand-in-hand with their Iraqi partners, but ISF are reportedly to take over security of the Iraqi people in the northern Baghdad area.
