Baghdad blasts kill at least 39

BAGHDAD (BNO NEWS) — At least thirty-nine people were killed and dozens more were injured when a series of explosions struck the Iraqi capital on Monday afternoon, Iraqi police said.

At least three explosions were reported. One blast occurred near the Sheraton Ishtar Hotel on Firdos Square. A second blast hit near the Babylon Hotel while a third happened near the Al Hamra Hotel.

Iraqi police said at least 39 people had been killed, while up to 40 others were said to be injured.

The U.S. Military in Iraq confirmed the explosions. “We do not have operational reporting at this time, but we can confirm there were explosions,” a spokeswoman said. Another spokesman also confirmed there had been explosions, but provided no additional information.
